Spine surgery patient cases
This quarter we want to highlight spine surgery. Below we share with you spine surgery patient cases where Bonalive® bioactive glass was used: spinal fusion surgery and spinal infection.
Spine surgery patient cases
The first spinal fusion surgery case we want to share with you is of an open posterolateral fusion:
Open posterolateral fusion
A 44-year-old patient was suffering from low back pain for 2.5 years. The patient had increasing radicular pain in the right leg for more than one year before surgery. Treatment included a posterolateral fusion using autograft and Bonalive® putty as a bone graft expander. View the whole case here.
Here is a case of minimally invasive spinal fusion surgery:
Posterolateral fusion with minimally invasive technique
A 54-year-old patient suffered from low back pain for 2 years. Worsening radicular pain in the left leg (L5). Treatment included posterolateral (left) and intercorporal fusion using autograft and Bonalive® putty as bone graft expander. View the whole case here.
Sometimes the spine can get infected. See how the following geriatric case was solved:
Vertebral osteomyelitis
A 72-year-old male with spondylodiscitis caused by gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus affecting the thoracic vertebrae T6–T8. Treatment included reconstruction using an expandable replacement device and bacterial growth inhibiting Bonalive® granules. View the whole case here.
